Sierra Lobo offers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. Sierra Lobo was founded in 1993 by engineers, who worked together for a large engineering firm on a contract at NASA’s Plum Brook Station in Sandusky, Ohio.
When that firm elected not to bid on Plum Brook’s Test Site Operations Contract, the SLI owners realized that their dream to build their own engineering company could become a reality.
The founders filed incorporation papers in 1993 in the name of Sierra Lobo, which means “mountain wolf” in Spanish. The name celebrates the heritage of President George A. Satornino and exemplifies the spirit of the company they wanted to build. The wolf symbolizes freedom, the spirit of nature, resourcefulness, and adaptability even under the most dire circumstances.
The founders formed the company to emphasize these innovative qualities.
Setting up shop in the Satornino family’s attic, they began to build the company with proven processes and procedures gained from their many years of technical experience, including:
- Conducting thermal/vacuum, propulsion system, and flight hardware tests involving cryogenic systems, hydrogen, and oxygen
- Working in various industries such as naval nuclear power, the glass industry, and aerospace
- Performing space simulation testing, including thermal vacuum testing of large-space hardware, as well as launch vehicle propellant systems testing
- Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering
- Program Management
Sierra Lobo won our first Test Operations contract in 1994 and opened our doors with nine employees on September 1, providing engineering test support service to NASA Plum Brook. Sierra Lobo is an AS9100 and ISO 9001:2008 certified company. Additionally, we have been appraised at Maturity Level II of CMMI for Development v1.2 by an SEI-authorized Lead Appraiser.
Our scope, as described in the registration statement, reads:
A Provider of Engineering and Technical Services, including Hardware Fabrication and Testing, to the Aerospace and Transportation Industries.
We believe that our registration stimulates a climate of customer confidence in the procedures and practices that Sierra Lobo applies to provide its products and services. It reinforces the Sierra Lobo management system and provides a framework for controlling and improving our business activities. We also believe that this registration adds value, competitiveness, and a marketing edge. Sierra Lobo is registered by NQA, one of the world’s largest accredited certification bodies.
